What Is the Best Recovery Plan After an Accident?

The best recovery plan after a car accident in BC combines medical clearance, ICBC pathways, and progressive active rehab — not rest alone.

There is no single “best” recovery plan after an accident — but the strongest plans share the same spine: get safe medically, open the insurance pathway, then rebuild movement with a progressive program.

1. Get assessed early

Pain that shows up a day or two later is common. A medical assessment rules out urgent issues and creates a record for your claim.

2. Use your ICBC (or extended health) pathway

In British Columbia, ICBC claims often include pre-approved kinesiology sessions in the early months after a crash. Coverage and user fees depend on your claim — we help decode paperwork so you can focus on training.

3. Move on purpose (active rehab)

Bed rest beyond the acute window usually slows recovery. Active rehabilitation means coached exercise: mobility, strength, and graded exposure to the tasks you care about — driving, lifting kids, returning to sport.

At Elevation Rehab that work happens on the Club16 floor with a BCAK kinesiologist.

4. Measure progress

Track sleep, pain with activity, and what you can do again. If progress stalls, adjust load — do not silently push through for weeks.

5. Plan the return, not just the pain

A good plan defines “done for now”: pain you can manage, strength targets, and a return-to-work or sport checklist.
